Caravan turned into blazing inferno in suspected arson attack

A caravan was turned into a blazing inferno after it was torched in Liverpool city centre.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Falkland Street, off London Road, at 9.30pm yesterday.

Video taken at the scene shows a fierce blaze, with thick smoke belching from the caravan.

It was parked near a bus stop on London Road, opposite the Lidl store.

The fire reduced the vehicle to a smouldering shell.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "There was no-one in the caravan at the time and enquiries are ongoing to trace the owner.

"The cause of the fire is suspected malicious ignition and enquiries are ongoing.

"Firefighters attended the incident at 9.30pm and extinguished the blaze."

No-one is understood to have been injured in the incident.
