Caravan park residents advised to evacuate as floodwater rises

Residents at a static caravan park in Newark have been advised to evacuate their homes "due to rising water levels".

There are more than 20 flood warnings in place across Nottinghamshire, as well as 11 flood alerts with communities along the River Trent most at risk of being affected.

Flood warnings mean flooding is expected and immediate action is required. A flood alert means flooding is possible.

At around 3pm on Monday, February 17, Newark and Sherwood District Council issued a message to people living at the Tolney Lane caravan site in Newark.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "Due to rising water levels on River Trent in Newark we are advising residents to evacuate the Tolney Lane caravan site.

"The lorry park will be available for residents with mobile accommodation to relocate on a temporary basis."

The village of Lowdham was badly hit with water pouring into people's homes and having to be pumped out by the fire service as a "major incident" was declared.

The Council said a "recovery operation" was underway to assist residents needing support.

With more rain forecast over the next 24 hours and throughout the week, the council is "urging" residents to make necessary arrangements, and in some cases temporarily relocate.
