Caravan explodes on Edinburgh street as dramatic footage shows fire take hold

Edinburgh fire crews raced to Oxgangs after a caravan exploded on a residential street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Three engines were called to Firrhill Drive shortly after 1am after reports of a "dwelling fire" in the area.

Dramatic footage shows a caravan go up in flames, close to neighbouring properties and parked vehicles. An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live that the caravan had exploded, and a number of cars were damaged.

He added: "There's a caravan that exploded just outside Firrhill Drive about 1am. Not sure what the circumstances are but fire services are on their way. Seems like nobody was hurt and just a few cars got damaged."

There are not believed to be any serious injuries, and the blaze was put out by fire crews shortly after the alarm was raised.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirm they were called to Firrhill Drive, Edinburgh, at 1:07am following reports of a "dwelling fire".

Three pumps were sent to the scene and the fire was put out a short time later.
