Held as part of the "Italian Festival In Thailand 2018" to celebrate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the exhibition compiles more than 40 reproductive works of the celebrated baroque painter's paintings.

They are collected by reputable museums worldwide including Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Grand Louvre in Paris, the National Gallery in London, Galleria Borghese in Rome and even the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Beside showing in detail the development of Caravaggio's works of art -- contents, compositions, and aesthetics -- and his creative process in its entirety, the exhibition also houses many of his most prominent masterpieces.

They include Bacchus, Medusa, and the rarely seen Boy Bitten By A Lizard or Saint Matthew And The Angel, an art piece situated in San Luigi dei Francesi (The Church of St Louis of the French), Rome, which can only be seen from a distance and with appropriate lighting.

Every piece of work is a digital capture and high-resolution reproduction, using innovative high definition digital technology, light and colour adjustments on translucent materials.

To ensure an identical reproduction of the original pieces, the entire process is overseen by both Italian and international art historians, and through this fashion, this collection paves the way for an exciting reinterpretation of Caravaggio's classic masterpieces where audiences can explore their rich contexts, compositions, aesthetics and extravagant values.

There will be a talk on "Palette Of Darkness/The Painting And Vision Of Caravaggio" with celebrated Thai artist Natee Utarit as speaker on May 12 at 2pm at the auditorium, 5th floor. Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is on Pathumwan intersection and opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-9pm.
