Carabao Cup results: Man City ease into quarter-finals as Watford crash out away to Everton

Manchester City have booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after easing past Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.

Southampton fans may have been fearing the worst when Pep Guardiola named both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in his starting XI just days after their record loss to Leicester.

City settled for three on the night, with Aguero grabbing a brace following Nicolas Otamendi's opener after 20 minutes with Jack Stephens scoring a consolation goal for the visitors.

Everton gave their fans something to cheer about, sealing a 2-0 win over Watford.

Quique Sanchez Flores made eight changes to his side but fell to two second-half goals against the Toffees with Mason Holgate and Richarlison sending them out of the competition.

Leicester continued their fine form with a 3-1 win over Burton Albion while Colchester won the battle of two League Two sides, sealing a 3-1 win at Crawley Town.

Oxford United, who thrashed West Ham 4-0 in the previous round, continued their superb run by dumping out League One rivals Sunderland with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win.

Carabao Cup fourth round results (Tuesday 29 October)

Burton 1-3 Leicester
Crawley 1-3 Colchester
Everton 2-0 Watford
Man City 3-1 Southampton
Oxford 1-1 Sunderland (4-2 on pens)
