Cara Delevingne is to make her stage debut in the West End’s multi-award-winning revival of Cabaret. The model and actor will play Sally Bowles when she joins the cast next month, along with Luke Treadaway who will take over as the Emcee. The parts are currently played by Self Esteem (AKA Rebecca Lucy Taylor) and Jake Shears in Rebecca Frecknall’s intimate production, which opened in 2021 with Jessie Buckley and Eddie Redmayne leading the cast.
“There are no words to explain the excitement I have to return home to make my stage debut in such an iconic role,” said Delevingne, who was born in London and has a home in Los Angeles. “I am so inspired by the brilliant actors who have played Sally in past productions around the world and in this one in the West End. I cannot wait to be a part of this brilliant cast and production.” Delevingne’s recent screen roles have included Only Murders in the Building and she presented the documentary Planet Sex with Cara Delevingne.
Delevingne and Treadaway will begin performances at the Playhouse theatre, which has been refashioned by designer Tom Scutt as Berlin’s debauched Kit Kat Club. Treadaway, who graduated from Lamda in 2006, had roles in Saint Joan and War Horse at the National Theatre in 2007 and won an Olivier award in 2013 for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Treadaway said today: “I can’t wait to become a member of the Kit Kat Club and join this extraordinary production. It’s a huge thrill to be asked to take this on and I’m very excited to get started.”
The pair join Michael Ahomka-Lindsay as Clifford Bradshaw, Beverley Klein as Fraulein Schneider and Teddy Kempner as Herr Schultz in the London production of Kander and Ebb’s classic which is booking until February 2025. Redmayne will resume the role on Broadway from April, opposite Gayle Rankin as Sally.
