Cara Delevingne has said she is happy for others to refer to her as gay in an interview declaring herself “completely in love” with her girlfriend.
The 23-year-old model and actress spoke at length about her relationship with her girlfriend Annie Clark a year after confirming the pair are dating. Clark is a singer-songwriter who is known by her stage name St Vincent.
Delevingne told Vogue how she used the term gay in a pejorative sense when she was younger. “As a child, I used gay as a bad word, as in, 'that's so gay.' All my friends did.
”[Her parents] have been so, so supportive. I'm obviously in love, so if people want to say I'm gay, that's great. But we're all liquid - we change, we grow.”
Delevingne, Vogue’s September cover star, is bisexual and has often spoken candidly about eschewing traditional sexual labels.
“Before, I didn’t know what love was - real love. I didn’t understand the depth of it. I always used to think it was you against the world. Now I know the meaning of life is love. Whether that’s for yourself or for the world or your partner.”
Delevingne also admitted her biggest worry was being employed because of her social media following. The model has amassed a substantial and loyal community of fans over the years and has 31.6 million followers on Instagram, 6 million on Twitter and 5.3 million on Facebook.
“My greatest fear is always that I have just been hired because of my number of followers," she said.
Delevingne plays the role of the Enchantress in Suicide Squad which is released in UK cinemas on 5 August.
