Cara Delevingne debunks Sun story on her being dropped by Victoria's Secret for being 'bloated'

Cara Delevingne has branded The Sun “shameless” and criticised the paper for using “women’s bodies to sell papers” after they claimed the model had been dropped from the Victoria’s Secret fashion show because she was “bloated”.

Last week, the paper ran an article under the headline: “Heavenly body-shaming: Victoria’s Secret blast ‘bloated’ Cara Delevingne as ‘fat, flat’’ models come under fire. The report claimed the 24-year-old was turned down and called "bloated" by the lingerie brand’s casting panel in an audition for the 2014 catwalk show.

Ed Razek, the executive producer of the annual fashion show, responded in a letter to Delevingne where he labelled the story a “complete fabrication”. Delevinge then shared the letter with her 35 million followers on Instagram.

“Dearest Cara, Victoria’s Secret rarely comments on tabloid gossip but this week’s article in British paper The Sun regarding you and the 2014 Victoria’s Secret fashion show is a complete fabrication,” it begins.

“The alleged casting, where supposedly disparaging remarks were made, never happened. There was NO casting. You had already been enthusiastically confirmed.”

Mr Razek said the reason Delevingne, who walked in the brand’s show in 2012 and 2013, did not join the long list of famous models in 2014 was because of her film commitments.

He also invited her to join this year’s show in Paris in December saying no casting would be necessary.

Giving the letter the seal of approval, Delevingne wrote: "It's shameless” to discuss women’s bodies just to sell papers, #bloated”.

A representative for The Sun did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
