Car 'written off' as crash causes M62 traffic to grind to halt

A crash on the M62 motorway this morning caused traffic to grind to a holt this morning.

The accident which happened on the M62 eastbound between Junctions 11 and 12 closed the lanes temporarily.

Emergency services raced to the scene near Warrington and Birchwood at around 6.30am.

North West Motorway Police who attended the crash said a suspected drink driver was involved and a car had been "written off".

They added that the suspected drink driver was "likely to lose their licence".

No news of any serious injuries has been reported, but lanes on the motorway between Warrington East and Birchwood was closed as vehicles were recovered.

Just before 8am, the remaining lane lanes were reopened.

A spokesperson for North West Motorway Police posted on their social media pages: "Lane 1 on the M62 EB between J11 & J12 is currently closed as another drunk driver has had an accident.

"Car is a write off, likely to lose their licence which could impact their employment! Is it really worth it? #Fatal5".
