Car wrecked and man taken to hospital after one-vehicle crash in Gateshead

A car was wrecked and a man was taken to hospital after a crash in Gateshead.

Emergency services were called out to the one-vehicle collision on Saltwell Road at about 10pm on Monday.

When they arrived, police helped to direct traffic around the incident while paramedics treated a male patient, who was later taken to hospital.

Pictures of the scene showed the car with significant damage to the left-hand side, with the windscreen smashed and the front-left wheel detached.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 10.05pm on Monday night to a one-vehicle road traffic collision on Saltwell Road.

"We dispatched two vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a double-crewed ambulance.

"We took a male patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."

There are currently no further details on the man's injuries.
