Car with cloned plates sparks police helicopter chase through Liverpool streets

A driver led police on a chase through the streets of North Liverpool on Saturday.

Officers were called to Queens Drive at around 8.50pm, in pursuit of a car with cloned licence plates.

Witnesses reported seeing a huge police presence on Rice Lane and County Road in Walton while a diversion was put in place.

One man said the police helicopter was out overhead as officers searched the area.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that the helicopter was deployed in pursuit of the five door Peugeot Saloon.

It was found abandoned a short time later around the York Street area.

The driver made off from the scene and is still at large.

Police said the investigation is ongoing to locate the driver.
