Car washed into the middle of flooded rugby pitch after Storm Dennis

Floods after Storm Dennis were so bad that a car was washed onto a Welsh rugby pitch.

Rising water levels from the River Rhymney has caused devastating damage to the club's pitch and its clubhouse.

The force of the flood water after Storm Dennis was so strong that it even lifted a Mercedes car over the barriers and dropped it on the field.

"There's a car there in the middle of the pitch the last I heard", David Cousins, 60, Bedwas RFC honorary secretary said.

"I've not been down there today so I don't know if it's still there, but it was there yesterday [Sunday].

"It just shows you how strong the current was."

Mr Cousins said that the club was not aware of who owned the car but that it would be sorted out as part of the clean-up.

Club members have since set up a gofundme page with a target of £5,000 to cover costs of repairs - as their insurance does not cover flood damage.
