It’s not known if Sarwar, who has recently returned to Labour’s shadow frontbench as constitutional spokesman, and his family were at home at the time.
Police sources said they are probing the incident.
The source said: “The car had been reported as stolen."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed they were treating the incident as “wilful” and inquiries are continuing.
She said: “We received a report of a car alight on Saturday 28 November outside an address in Glasgow.
“It is being treated as wilful and inquiries are continuing.”
