Car torched in suspicious fire started in Hamilton driveway

A car was set alight in the driveway of a Hamilton home in the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday).

Around 1.45am, police and emergency services attended a report of an orange Ford Ranger car on fire in the town's Rannoch Avenue.

Officers are appealing for information after a car was deliberately set on fire in Hamilton in the early hours of Wednesday 1 May 2019.

The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries, however, the car was significantly damaged.

Renfrew rapist Graeme Brown jailed for 15 years for 'vile sexual offences' against eight women

Detective Constable Martin McKissock, Cambuslang CID, is investigating the incident.

He said: "In this case, we believe that this particular car was vandalised deliberately. Why that was the case has still to be established.

“That said, to set a car on fire outside a home in a residential area is very dangerous. Thankfully the fire did not spread but the consequences could have been so much worse had it taken more of a hold.

“From CCTV, a man dressed in dark clothing with his hood up can be seen at the car around the time. He made off on foot from there heading towards Sherry Drive.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man dressed in black hanging about the area or maybe running off afterwards, or who may have seen, heard or knows anything that will assist our investigation to come forward.

“Anyone with information that will assist our enquiries can contact Cambuslang CID via 101.

"Please quote incident number 0246 of the 1 May when calling. If you wish to provide information anonymously, then contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
