Car torched in Aberdeenshire as cops hunt firebugs

Police hunting firebugs in Aberdeenshire after a car was torched are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The blue Citroen C2 car was set alight on the A950, Longside to Peterhead Road, near Flushing on Thursday morning.

Officers raced to the scene when the alarm was raised just after midnight.

Fire crews also attended and were able to put out the blaze.

Nobody was in the vehicle at the time.

Cops are treating the fire as wilful and launched an investigation to find the owner.

Anyone with information, witnesses, or those who may have dash cam footage are being urged to come forward.

The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Constable Josh Mowatt said: “The fire is being treated as wilful.

"No one was in the car at the time and we are carrying out enquiries to trace the owner.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed anything that could assist our enquiry, or anyone with information that will assist our investigation to contact us.

"I would also ask anyone driving on the A950 near to Flushing late on Wednesday night with dash-cam footage to come forward as they may have captured something relevant to this investigation.

"Anyone with information can contact Police on 101 or via the Police Scotland website.

"Anonymous reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Reference number is 0003 of February 25."
