Car swoop leads police to man suspected of child sex offence

A man wanted as part of North West-wide investigation into sexual communications with a child has been found after a car was stopped in Liverpool.

The suspect was traced after police asked a car to pull over on Dryden Road close to Liverpool Shopping Park off Edge Lane.

The dramatic arrest followed a stop check around 6pm on Monday, February 22, police confirmed.

Today Merseyside Police said a 30-year-old man from Knowsley had been arested as part of an investigation inconjunction with North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) into child sex offences.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "At around 6pm on Monday, 22 February, officers arrested a man following the stop check of a vehicle on Dryden Road, Liverpool.

"The arrest follows a joint investigation with North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) into sexual communications with a child."

The spokesperson added: "A 30-year-old man from Knowsley was arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and was taken for questioning."

The suspect has been released under investigation pending further enquiries and an investigation is ongoing.
