Car stolen in spate of overnight burglaries in Nottinghamshire village

A car was stolen during a spate of overnight burglaries in a Nottinghamshire village.

Police said they had received of reports of  four burglaries and one attempted burglary in Radcliffe on Trent overnight (July 25-26) around the Canadian Estate area.

In one of the burglaries, a black VW Passat was stolen.

PC Howard Shinn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Officers will be in the area over the coming days. Residents are reminded to keep their doors and windows closed particularly the ground floor windows and take keys, including car keys into their bedrooms with them overnight.

"Windows and doors to the front of the property should also be kept closed and locked if you are in the rear garden.

"If you have CCTV at your address please check that you are happy with the area it covers and the lens is clean and not obstructed."

There have been reports of up to nine burglaries in the area overnight. Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101.

Detective Sergeant Gary Hewson, who is investigating the burglaries, said: “The hot weather we are experiencing can create opportunities for burglars as windows and doors are left open.

"Police will be patrolling the area, but I would like to remind residents to lock doors and windows when they are out and not to leave ground floor windows open overnight.”
