Car stolen from London in April found in Eccles

A car stolen from London in April and used in a robbery has been recovered by police in Eccles.

A traffic PCSO spotted the suspect vehicle on Friday evening and checks revealed the Ford was a stolen vehicle with cloned plates.

The car was subsequently seized in order to undergo forensic examination.

Greater Manchester Police Traffic wrote on Twitter early on Sunday morning: “#TrafficPCSO patrol was patrolling @GMPSalford in the Eccles area on Friday evening.

“Located a vehicle that aroused his curiosity Checks revealed it was a stolen car on cloned plates.

“Stolen from London in April & used in a robbery Recovered for forensic exam”.

In 2020, 74,769 vehicles were reported stolen to the DVLA, with Ford Fiestas the most commonly taken model of car.

According to the Office of National Statistics, 72 per cent of stolen vehicles were never returned to their owners last year.
