Gold Coast police say a baby who was strapped in the back seat of a car stolen this afternoon has been found safe and well.

They had sought urgent public assistance to locate a five-month-old baby who was strapped in the back of a white Mazda 3 stolen from a garage in Molendinar this afternoon.

The car was stolen at about 4:25pm by unknown offenders.

Around an hour later, police confirmed that both the car and the baby had been located.
