Car split in two after horror crash on East Lancs Road - remarkably no-one was seriously injured

Remarkably no-one was seriously injured following a horror crash on the East Lancs Road in which a car was pictured split in two.

The road was closed on Monday night following the smash near the junction with Chaddock Lane in Salford at about 10pm.

Pictures from the scene show a Vauxhall Vectra split in two on a grass verge.

Another car, thought to be a Mercedes, can also be seen inside the cordon.

On Tuesday a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed one man had been taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious.

No arrests have been made.

Speaking on Monday night a witness said it was a 'miracle' no-one had been killed.

He added: "There's a telegraph pole that's bent over, so I'm not sure if one of the cars has hit that.

"The Vectra is in half and it looks like someone has been taken to hospital.

"Looking at the damage it's a miracle no-one has been killed."

A spokesperson from Farnworth fire station said: "We were called to the scene at around 10pm. Both pumps from Farnworth were mobilised as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton.

"We were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.

"We extricated one male from a vehicle and he was taken to hospital by paramedics.

"There were two cars involved, but one casualty."
