Car smashes through wall and hits post office after driver suffers suspected 'medical episode'

This is the damage caused to a car after a driver crashed into a post office wall Swansea. The crash happened on Friday, April 3 just after 7pm at Penllergaer post office.

Pictures show extensive damage to the car and a cordon is in place outside the shop, while debris remained on the floor on Saturday morning.

The driver was taken to hospital. It is understood he had suffered a medical episode in the moments leading up to the incident.

Adam Day, aged 46, lives next door to the post office and was on his drive when the crash happened.

He said: "I was on my drive when I heard the crash, I turned around and could see that the car had gone into the wall.

"I then got the guy out of the car and I put him in the recovery position. My son Isaac also came out to help and we waited until the emergency services arrived.

"Thankfully no-one was outside the post office when this happened."

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Police were notified by paramedics at the scene of the incident which occurred at approximately 7.10pm.

"A red VW Polo left Gorseinon Rd and was in collision with a small wall next to the Post Office.

"The driver was taken to hospital – it is understood that he had suffered a medical episode in the moments leading up to the incident.

"He’s expected to make a full recovery."
