Car smashes through wall and ends up on its side in field

Firefighters had to cut off the windscreen to free a driver after his car smashed through a stone wall in Huyton.

There was a large emergency services presence at the scene, just before noon on Tuesday.

Police said they were called to Liverpool Road, at its junction with Seth Powell Way, to reports of a single vehicle RTC.

The car left the carriageway, demolished a section of the stone wall, and ended up on its side in a nearby field.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service sent two engines and the Search and Rescue Team to the scene of the incident.

A spokesperson said: "There was one person in the vehicle. We removed the windscreen to assist the person out."

Police said the man was believed to have suffered only minor injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment.

No other vehicles were involved.

Council contractors are believed to be repairing the damage to the wall.
