Car smashes through pharmacy just inches from shop staff

A car smashed through the front of a pharmacy narrowly missing members of staff inside.

Emergency services were called to Chadwick Street in Moreton at around 3pm to reports that a blue Ford Focus had collided with the front of Rowlands Pharmacy.

It is believed that two people were inside the car when it mounted the footpath and ploughed through the glass windows and doors, and stopped half way into the shop.

Significant damage was caused to the structure of the shop but a witness told the ECHO that staff were not injured in the crash.

Police and fire crews arrived at the scene and a cordon was quickly put in place around the shop.

Officers confirmed that two people were inside the car when it crash and that the male driver was described as "walking wounded".

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were called to Chadwick Street at 3.03pm to reports of a crash involving one vehicle which had collided with the front of a store.

"No staff members were injured in the incident and one male driver was classed as 'walking wounded'.

"The car will be removed shortly and Wirral Council are involved to investigate whether there is any structural damage to the building.

"The building will then be boarded up once the car has been removed."
