Car smashes into lamppost and flips on roof as two people flee scene

Two people fled from a crash after a car smashed into a lamppost and flipped onto its roof.

The drama unfolded at around 1.10am Sunday morning, on the junction Hildebrand road and Utting Avenue in Anfield.

The driver of the Audi S3 Quattro is thought to have ran off towards Priory Road, along with another passenger moments after the one vehicle crash.

In dramatic pictures taken at the scene the car can be seen balancing on its roof with a huge chunk of its front missing.

While other photos show the badly damaged bonnet and police officers gathering around on the side of the street.

Video footage taken by a witness at the scene shows car parts littered across the street, after the front of the car took the full force of the crash.

Firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue can also be seen in the footage using wire which is attached to the vehicle, to flip it back onto the ground.

Merseyside Police also attended the scene and officers are now trying to track down the passengers involved.

No injuries have been reported at this stage.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a fail to stop collision in Anfield in the early hours of yesterday morning, Sunday 8 September.

"At 1.10am, reports were received of an Audi S3 Quattro in collision with a lamppost at the junction of Utting Avenue and Hildebrand Road.

"No injuries were reported but it is believed that two occupants of the car made off on foot towards Priory Road.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved."
