Car smashes into drop-off sign outside A&E as driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving

A car was smashed into a drop-off sign outside Bolton's A&E department on Sunday (May 21) as police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Police shared the picture of the Peugeot 107 after it appeared to have 'parked badly' and crashed into the sign just outside Royal Bolton Hospital, with staff having to help officers detain the driver at the scene.

Nobody was injured in the incident, however it was confirmed the driver had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and for not having a licence or insurance.

The car was seized by officers, with the driver also receiving a parking fine in the post for exceeding the 20 minute drop off allowance time.

GMP's Bolton South division wrote on social media: "@GMPBoltonSouth NBO team and Royal Bolton Hospital staff helped @gmptraffic detain the driver of this badly parked car outside A&E, lucky no-one else was hurt.

"Driver arrested drug drive, no licence, no insurance. Car seized might be longer than 20 minutes, parking fine in post."
