This was the scene in Bootle this afternoon after a car was severely damaged following a crash on a busy road.
Emergency services were called to Southport Road just after 4pm following reports of an incident involving two vehicles.
A witness reported a black car had hit a white van, with images taken at the scene showing major damage to the car.
The southbound carriageway - for traffic heading towards Liverpool - was closed while those involved were given assistance and the debris was cleared from the road.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service all had staff in attendance.
