Car set on fire as attempts made to steal four more on quiet Airdrie street

A police probe is underway after a car was deliberately torched and attempts were made to steal four other cars on the same street in Airdrie.

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning (October 3) in the Craigneuk area.

Around 2.30am police were called to a report of a car set on fire in Maple Quadrant.

Emergency services attended and found there had also been attempts to break in to four vehicles in the street.

Detective Sergeant Lorraine Wilson from Coatbridge CID said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“If you were in the area of Maple Quadrant in the early hours of Sunday morning, and saw anyone acting suspiciously, please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0519 of Sunday, 3 October, 2021. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
