Car seized by police after being picked up on ANPR camera

A car has been seized by police after it was identified on an ANPR camera before trying a "few cheeky left and rights". Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit made the stop in Long Eaton on Sunday, July 3.

The force say the driver had no licence or insurance and so they seized their car. An Automatic Number Plate Recognition [ANPR] camera is a surveillance device that reads licence plates and informs the police to try to prevent criminal activities.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Long Eaton - activates ANPR and then tries a few cheeky lefts and rights. Didn't work! No licence or insurance - seized. Many points, many fines, many thanks."
