Car rescued by Search and Rescue team after being submerged near Weston-super-Mare

A car has been rescued by a Search and Rescue team after being submerged by the incoming tide near Weston-super-Mare.

Crews from BARB Search & Rescue were called to Brean Beach at around 7.30pm yesterday evening (May 4) after a car became stranded in the sea.

The vehicle's driver had gone for a walk and was unaware the incoming tide would surround the car.

The car was towed up the beach to a safe place once the tide had receded before it was taken away by a recovery service at around 10pm.

"Our crews were called to Brean beach at 7.39pm by coastguards after a car had become stranded in the sea by the incoming tide," a BARB Search & Rescue spokesperson said.

"The vehicle's driver had been on a walk and was unaware that the sea would surround the vehicle.

"The beach warden raised the alarm and crews from Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team and BARB were called to assist with scene safety and in towing the car up the beach to a safe place, once the tide had receded, for it to be taken away by a commercial recovery service shortly after 10:00pm, thereby avoiding anyone putting themselves in danger.
