Car racing's littlest fans get into their own zone

ZOOM: The zone will feature its own inflatable race track for little speedsters.

AS work continues preparing the East End for the return of the Supercars later this month, organisers are also busy readying the entertainment for racing's youngest fans.

This year the Supercars SuperKids Zone promises something for children of all ages, Supercars said in a statement.

The designated family zone, accessed from Pacific Park, will operate throughout the three days with hands-on racing activities, an inflatable race track featuring "pimped out carts and bikes", table top games including the Fast Fan Challenge to test speed and reaction skills and the Pit Stop Challenge for learning about tyre changing and mechanics.

"Right in the midst of the action, The SuperKids Zone is a fully fenced and secure area, designed exclusively for parents and little people to relax, play, and test their racing abilities," general manager operations at Supercars Kurt Sakzewski said.

"This year's Coates Hire Newcastle 500 has really turned up the dial for entertainment, and we hope fans of all ages have a fantastic time soaking up all the exciting sights and activities that are on offer."

The SuperKids Zone was introduced at the Townsville 400 and Gold Coast 600 events earlier this year.

Adult supervision is required at all times.

Supercars is one month into its two-month build and pack-up, with Wharf Road closed until December 13.

Mr Sakzewski has previously said the light rail service, which crosses the circuit at Watt Street, would continue running to Pacific Park until late on Wednesday, November 20, two days before the race weekend, when it will terminate at Queens Wharf.

The full service would resume late on November 25, the day after the race.

Clearways for the rest of the track have been in place since October 28 and will become one-directional for traffic from November 18.
