Car plunges off road and into Fife burn as driver makes miracle escape

A driver had a miracle escape after his car plunged off a road and ended up nose down in a Fife burn.

The BMW left the Kinnessburn Road, in St Andrews, at 5.50 on Thursday morning.

Local reports said the driver was ‘okay’ after the terrifying incident.

It is not yet known what led to the crash on the junction with Pipeland Road but conditions in the area have been extremely icy in recent days.

There have been a spate of bad crashes on the roads after Scots woke up to a white out this morning as snow fell overnight across the country.

Last night temperatures dropped to zero and a low-lying mist was spotted across Glasgow and the west.

It follows reports that Scotland is set to be hit by Beast from the East 2021 with snow and ice set to plague the UK.

The Met Office has issued a further yellow weather warning for Scotland for snow and ice that will last from 3pm to midnight.

Experts warned of very poor driving conditions and predicted 'some injuries’ from slips and falls on icy surfaces' as ice continues to frosts pavements and roads.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.

They added: "Officers attended at Pipeland Road, St Andrews, at 5.50am this morning after reports that a car was in a burn."
