Car plunges down embankment near Erskine Bridge as man rushed to hospital

A man has been rushed to hospital after a car plunged down an embankment near the Erskine Bridge.

The northbound carriageway of the A82 remains closed by police after emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.25am.

Motorists are facing heavy delays in the surrounding area with traffic queuing back over the bridge and onto the M8 westbound at Junction 29.

Traffic Scotland is urging travellers to find an alternative route while police remain at the scene.

One man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

They tweeted: “The A82 remains closed northbound after the Erskine Bridge due to an RTC. Traffic queuing back onto the bridge and onto the M8 westbound at J29 St James.”

A statement from Police Scotland added: “Around 11.25am on Monday, 19 July, we received a report that a car had gone down an embankment following a crash on the A82 near the Erskine Bridge.

“Emergency services are in attendance and a man has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."
