Car ploughs through front window of Scots supermarket

A supermarket has closed after a hatchback crashed through its front window, striking a bank machine.

The white Vauxhall Corsa ploughed into the front of the Co-op store in Aberfeldy, Perthshire at around 1.40pm on Monday March 20. Images shared on social media showed the vehicle at a standstill surrounded by shards of safety glass.

The frame around the hole-in-the-wall had been dislodged by the crash and a bench had been struck and knocked over. Police say there are no injuries and that enquiries are ongoing into the smash.

The shop has been closed following the shunt, with no indication as to when it might reopen.

A member of staff from the Co-op posted on social media: "Hello everyone. Due to unforeseen circumstances the Co-op will be closed for the foreseeable future.

"We will update when we know more. Apologies for the inconvenience."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to a report of a crash involving one vehicle at Dunkeld Street, Aberfeldy around 1.40pm on Monday, 20 March. There are no reports of any injuries and enquiries are ongoing.”
