Car ploughs into Scots takeaway and bursts into flames as cops launch probe

A car ploughed through the front window of a Scots takeaway and burst into flames in East Kilbride.

The vehicle mowed into the food joint at The Murray Square in the South Lanarkshire town at 11.40pm on Thursday.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene after the motor caught alight.

Shocking footage shared online shows the vehicle jutting out of the takeaway with police and fire crews on the scene.

It is understood no one was injured in the incident.

Cops are continuing to probe the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "We received a report of a vehicle having been driven into a takeaway restaurant at The Murray Square in East Kilbride around 11.40pm on Thursday, January 28.

"The vehicle subsequently caught fire and was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

"Nobody was injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
