Car ploughs into pedestrians at busy crossing leaving 13 injured

Thirteen people were injured after a car suddenly ploughed into pedestrians at a crossing in China.

Horrifying dash-cam footage shows a white Mercedes-Benz waiting for a traffic light at a junction before suddenly driving forward and hitting the crowd.

Some of the pedestrians were sent flying midair and others were trapped under the wheel when the car rammed towards them.

The car slammed into another three vehicles before making a stop at over 30 feet away.

According to The Paper, the incident took place during rush hour at about 8.05am in Tianhe district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

In a separate video, members of the pubic can be seen assisting the injured.

A total of 13 pedestrians were taken to hospital for treatment, with two seriously injured.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old woman, who is known by the surname Ding, on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Ms Ding claimed she was reaching for a water bottle at the back seat and accidentally drove forward while waiting a red light.

She was also given a breathalyser for blood alcohol level. The results indicated that she had not consumed any alcohol.

Guangzhou Police say the incident remains under investigation.
