Car ploughs into front of Italian restaurant after police chase in Hale

A car ploughed into the front of a restaurant in Hale following an early morning police chase.

Residents living nearby reported hearing an 'almighty bang' as the VW Golf smashed into Dante on Ashley Road.

Dramatic pictures from the scene showed the VW Golf surrounded by bricks and rubble.

Police said they were alerted to the incident after a homeowner reported their vehicle had been stolen at around 2.20am this morning (Thursday).

Officers began chasing the car as it had a tracker on it, a GMP spokesman said.

It was at that point that they spotted a VW Golf, described as a 'tandem car', which drove off from police.

The Golf then crashed into the restaurant.

Four men were detained at the scene, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman did not have further details about the arrests.

The men in the car all suffered injuries which were 'not life threatening and not life changing'.
