Car parks along Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park and Llansteffan beachfront reopen today

Some car parks along Carmarthenshire's beachfronts are reopening on Friday, June 5 for the first time since lockdown measures were put in place at the end of March.

The council-run car parks will reopen one week after the Welsh Government eased lockdown restrictions and are now permitting people from two different households to meet up outside.

Carmarthenshire Council is urging people to maintain social distancing at the car parks and reiterating the Welsh Government's guidelines to stay local and not travel any further than five miles for essential journeys.

All council-owned car parks along the popular beauty spot Llanelli Millennium Coastal Path will re-open.

The re-opening comes days after drivers were spotted moving barriers in order to park near the beach and parking on double yellow lines and in dangerous places so they could enjoy the Llanelli beachfront.

Council-run car parks at the beachfront in Llansteffan will also be reopening.

Pay and display machines at the car parks in Llanelli and Llansteffan are not currently operating and the Factory Road car park near the entrance to popular tourist destination Pembrey Country Park will remain closed until further notice.

Some council-run car parks along the coastlines in neighbouring Swansea also re-opened earlier this week but Swansea Council has urged visitors to keep their beaches clean from rubbish.

The RNLI have also urged visitors not to go in to the water as lifeguard supervision will not be in place until later this year.
