A major car park in South Queensferry has been shut down between the hours of 10pm and 5am to try and tackle the problem of drag racing and antisocial behaviour in the area.
It comes as locals were forced to take to the streets to address the issue with police at a drop-in session discussing non-stop vehicles racing up and down the Hawes and along the High Street.
The racing issue in the area has only escalated since lockdown and now local councillors have announced that they hope shutting down the local car park can " break the cycle of this late-night activity".
Speaking on their join Facebook account, Cllr Kevin Lang and Cllr Louise Young said: "HAWES CAR PARK CLOSING EACH NIGHT 10pm-5am
"With the ongoing problem of late-night speeding cars and anti-social behaviour affecting Queensferry, the decision has been taken to close the Hawes car park between 10pm and 5am each night.
"This will continue until the end of July".
They added "The car park as been increasingly used as a meeting point for those causing issues in the town. The flat stretch of the car park itself (which doesn't have speed bumps) has also been attractive for racing.
We are sorry if this change causes an inconvenience for any of our constituents.
"However, we hope people will understand as everyone, including the police, try to break the cycle of this late-night activity which we know is causing a lot of distress and disturbance for local residents, particularly those on Newhalls Road and the Queensferry High Street".
