Car park at Teversal Visitor Centre closed after reports of large gatherings and 'nuisance' behaviour

A popular visitor centre in Nottinghamshire has had its car park closed after people were being a "nuisance" and abusing the site.

Teversal Visitor Centre, which is home to a number of rural trails, has seen an uptake in the amount of people parking at its base and committing anti-social behaviour.

Ashfield District Council reports that it has taken a number of calls relating to "large gatherings" at the site, as well as people causing havoc in the area.

As a result, the council has announced it has temporarily closed the car park to prevent people gathering there, and has urged people to "respect local residents".

A spokesperson for the council said: "Due to a recent increase in vehicle nuisance we will be closing Teversal Visitor Centre car park until June 22, 2020.

"We have been responding to a large number of calls relating to anti-social behaviour, large gatherings and nuisance behaviour at the site.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are committed to dealing with anti-social and nuisance behaviour across the district and will continue to review the situation.

"Please can we ask that if you intend on visiting the trails over the next seven days you respect local residents and do not park your vehicle in an obstructive way."
