Car owner assaulted by knife-wielding man, who later stole different vehicle: police

A person assaulted and threatened another man with a knife before stealing from him, before stealing a car in separate incidents, police say.

ACT police say a man assaulted the owner a car in Cowlishaw Street, Greenway, and threatened the owner with a knife before fleeing with stolen property on Tuesday morning.

"A short time later, police allege the same man attempted to steal a motor vehicle from a car park on Howell Street, Greenway, but was disturbed while doing so by that vehicle's owner," they said in a statement.

"Police will further allege that on the same morning the man stole a motor vehicle from a residence in Eileen Good Street, Greenway."

Officers arrested a 26-year-old man when they saw him in a stolen car about 2am Wednesday.

The man is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning, when he will be charged with nine offences including several relating to stolen motor vehicles.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website and quote reference 6507585.
