Car overturned on M5 near Thornbury amid spate of crashes during Storm Barbara warning

A car overturned on the M5 amid a spate of crashes on the region's roads.

The car rolled over shortly after 9am on the motorway on the northbound carriageway of the M5 amid the Met Office warning for heavy rain.

The stranded vehicle, which was overturned at Junction 14 for the B4509 towards Thornbury and Falfield, was removed by 9.30am.

Traffic was moving well despite the overturned car.

South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust said: "We transported a male patient to hospital after responding a call at 9.01am about an overturned vehicle on the M5 southbound at Junction 13."

It is one of a number of car crashes on Wednesday morning, with heavy downpours across the area making driving more dangerous.

There has been a yellow weather warning issues across the south west for rain from the Met Office.

Other crashes include a collision between a lorry and a car which has closed the A303 in Somerset.

Traffic is queuing from A350 (Chicklade) to B3092 (Mere) after the accident which happened around 7.24am today (October 21).

The A303 is closed in both directions, says traffic monitoring service Inrix.

Inrix initially said traffic stretched from Chicklade to Wincanton, but has since said the delays are between Chicklade and Mere.
