Car on its side with road shut off after serious crash in Bolton

Fire, police and ambulance services are at the scene of a serious road accident on the edge of Bolton town centre.

Emergency vehicles were scrambled following a two-vehicle collision just after 6pm on Marsden Road, at its junction with Spa Road, Deansgate and Moor Lane.

A police spokesperson confirmed an incident was ongoing. One woman has been taken to hospital, although it is not known how serious her injuries are.

Pictures show the road cordoned off with a large number of police vehicles in attendance.

Witnesses at the scene say two cars were involved in the collision, with photos showing one vehicle on its side.

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “One fire engine from Bolton Central fire station (just yards away) arrived quickly and firefighters helped make the area safe.

"Two women were assessed at the scene by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and one was later taken to hospital.

“GMFRS crews were in attendance for about 40 minutes.”

Marsden Road forms part of the inner ring round around Bolton town centre is known to be extremely busy at rush hour.

At least two serious road accidents have occurred there in the last six years.
