Car on fire on the M50 causes huge delays for Dublin drivers

A car fire on the M50 caused huge delays for Dublin drivers this afternoon.

The single vehicle blaze happened on the M50 southbound between Junction 14 Sandyford and Junction 15 Carrickmines.

All lanes were temporarily closed but have now reopened.

Dublin Fire Brigade and gardai attended the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.

Gardai warned drivers to expect heavy delays in the area.

They said on Twitter: "Due to a vehicle in difficulty, all lanes are currently blocked on the M50 Southbound between Junction 14 and 15.

"Heavy delays and traffic is expected for any road users travelling in that direction."

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Dublin Live has contacted An Garda Siochana for comment.
