Fire crews have rushed to the scene of a car on fire on the M74 motorway .
Photos posted on social media show flames coming from a vehicle, near to where the motorway meets the M8, and black smoke billowing into the sky.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live they are at the scene.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We're in attendance just now.
"We've got two appliances there, on the northbound carriageway of the M74."
Further detail couldn't be given at the time.
Meanwhile, Traffic Scotland confirmed: "M74 N/B vehicle fire Vehicle fire on the M74 N/B onto the M8 W/B Lane 1 closed to assist Congestion is tailing back to J2."
The incident is likely to cause tailbacks for Rangers fans heading to Ibrox for the team's Europa League match this evening.
UPDATE 7.35pm: Scotland TranServ confirmed: "Vehicle Fire on M74 N/B at J1 has been extinguished and all emergency services have left location.
"Damaged vehicle is on the hard shoulder awaiting uplift.
"Scotlandtranserv ISU attending."
