Car number plate goes viral as people spot rude message it creates in the mirror

Splashing out on a personalised car number plate requires getting creative to make the most of the limited options at your disposal.

Whether you go with your own initials, the acronym of your favourite football team or just something you like the look of, a lot of thought usually goes into the decision.

Which means a plate that has gone viral on social media thanks to its rude interpretation probably wasn't simply an unfortunate coincidence.

There's a few rules restricting combinations deemed offensive or in poor taste, but a plate bearing X32 22A appears to pose no problems - until you look at it in a rear view mirror.

How did this one get through? (Reddit)

An image of the car, thought to be in Australia, went viral after being shared on Reddit with the caption: "Slipped through the back door of Department of Transport..."

Much like the rude words we all spent our maths classes creating on calculators, it left plenty of people thoroughly amused and, unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for the puns to start rolling in.

One person replied to say: "You'd hate to be rear ended by that beauty."

A second wrote: "That's certainly a good reason to move into the slow lane when you see this guy pulling up behind you."

Another added: "Normally I think personalised plates are a huge waste of money but this, this is worth every dollar."

In the UK, the DVLA regularly bans registration plates which contain swear words, rude phrases and words likely to causes offence - including those of a racial, religious or political nature.

It releases a biannual list of plates which are a big no-no, with last year's featuring some regular offenders including AS19 OLE, BU19 GER and DO19 POO.

Other more recent additions include plates such as EU19 OUT and EU19 SHT, which were seemingly struck off due to the apparent reference to Brexit.
