Car mounts footpath as gardai 'arrest drink driver four times over the limit'

Gardaí arrested a driver after a dangerous incident saw a car mount a footpath after allegedly ignoring officers.

The vehicle in question was approaching a checkpoint before attempting to avoid it.

After a brief moment, the car then mounted a footpath in order to try and escape Gardaí.

They were subsequently stopped - and the driver failed a breathalyzer test.

They were found to be four times over the legal limit.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochána said: "Naas Roads Policing Unit arrested this driver for drunken driving after they turned away from a checkpoint & mounted a foot path to avoid Gardaí. They were stopped & were found to be 4 times over the legal limit. Proceedings to follow."

Meanwhile, another driver had a miraculous escape after colliding with a road sign during a shocking incident in Cork over the weekend.

The single-vehicle crash took place just off the N20 on Sunday evening.

A Range Rover left the road and hit a road sign, with the sign lodging into the car's windshield.

Amazingly, the glass didn't smash and no one was hurt.

An ambulance and Gardaí both attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí said: "Gardaí attended the scene of a single vehicle collision at Waterloo, Blarney on May 30, 2021 at around 7.30pm.

"The car is believed to have collided with a sign post at the side of the road. No injuries were reported to Gardaí at the time of the collision."
