Car linked to Edinburgh robbery found ablaze at city park as area cordoned off by cops

A car linked to a robbery was found ablaze at an Edinburgh park, with the area cordoned off by police.

Emergency services raced to Lochend Park, Edinburgh, at around 12.20am on Friday, January 7.

Locals in the area were stunned as fire crews and police swarmed the area.

One resident told the Daily Record they heard 'bangs' coming from the scene, with the Volkswagen Tiguan vehicle up in flames.

A cordon was put in place following the incident.

Cops have now confirmed they are investigating after the burned out car was linked to a robbery in Leven Street less than two hours prior to the fire.

It's understood no one was injured in the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a Volkswagen Tiguan was found on fire in Lochend Park at around 12.20am on Friday, 7 January, 2022.

“The vehicle had previously been involved in a robbery at an address in Leven Street at around 11pm on Thursday, 6 January.

“Inquiries into the incidents are continuing and anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident 3131 of 6 January.”
