Car left in crumpled heap after crash as road is closed for four hours

A road was shut for around four hours after a two-car crash.

Pictures show a badly damaged Vauxhall Insignia with its side caved in and crumpled roof facing an Audi A3 with a damaged front-end.

Police had to close the road for almost four hours after the two cars crashed around 7pm on Thursday.

But a police spokesman said both drivers escaped with "slight injuries" after the crash on the junction of Green Lane and Park View in Thornton.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We were called to the  junction of Green Lane and Park View in Thornton to reports of a road traffic collision at 7.05pm.

"Park View was closed in both directions at Broom's Cross Road roundabout and re-opened at 10.50pm."

Confirming that nobody was hurt a police spokesman said: "An ambulance called but there were no serious injuries and nobody was taken to hospital."

Elsewhere the Broadgreen Flyover was temporarily closed in a southbound direction after a white Corsa crashed into the central reservation, just before 8am, on Friday.

Paramedics were called to the scene but a Merseyside Police spokeswoman said there were "no serious injuries".

The road was re-opened shortly after 9am.
