Car left floating in Scots play park after driver abandons it in torrential rain

A car has been left stranded in a local park after torrential rain forced it to be abandoned near an overrun burn.

Eye witnesses were left in shock at the sight of the car floating near a play park in Burnbraes Park in Biggar after appearing to get stranded at a nearby ford crossing.

Police had attended at the scene this morning and the car is being arranged for pick up by the owners.

Eye witness Peter Rae said: “I went down after I heard there was a problem at the burn and it was pretty flooded.

“I noticed the road was closed and the red car must have tried to use the ford because the river had been so fierce.

“Police had been called and there were signs right around.”

He added: “We have actually been campaigning for years to get the burn cleared.

“But I’ve never seen anything this bad since maybe the 1950s or 60s.”
