This dramatic photograph shows the aftermath of a car after it flew across the M4.
The vehicle was completely destroyed following the collision at 11.54am on Wednesday morning (September 30).
No one was injured in the crash, which happened between J17 A350 (Chippenham) and J18 A46 (Bath) on the Westbound carriageway.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary road safety team tweeted: "We attended a road traffic collision today that started on the #M4 east but ended up on the #M4 west.
"Thankfully the occupant was not severely injured."
Barrier repairs are taking place overnight due to the extensive damage caused to the central reservation.
Wiltshire Police confirmed there were two separate crashes on the same stretch of the M4 today.
The second was a multi-vehicle collision near just after Leigh Delamere services.
